The Wapakoneta Country Club was founded on November 7, 1952 with the Messrs. Donald Friend, Richard Brading, and Mark Bowsher. Related articles of incorporation as Wapakoneta Construction Company were also filed that same day by trustees Harold Harrison, Lucas Fischer, and Richard Schaefers. The first corporate meeting was held the following day. Lucas Fischer was elected the first President of the Club on November 19, 1952.
The course opened for play on July 25, 1953 after completing just seven greens. Title to the land was obtained from Doc Peterson at a cost of only $25,000 in 1952. The first addition to the Clubhouse was made that same year and was followed by a remodeling project in 1956.
The latest Clubhouse remodeling project was started in mid 1989 and completed in early 1990. This project also included the addition of a 47' x 28.5' Pro Shop along the west side of the banquet room. Central air conditioning and heating systems were installed for the combined facility. A 36' x 27' deck was added to the south side of the banquet room in 1995.
The original system for watering the fairways was installed in 1966 and later the original metal pipe was replaced with plastic pipe. A complete new computer controlled, double row irrigation system was installed in 1996.
The recreational and clubhouse faciliites available to the membership of WCC represent a great deal of work, planning and dedication on the part of the membership, past and present Boards and past and present Presidents.
